The
Window Song
© 2005 Jubal Lee Young
The
window is wide open and the rain is blowing in
Somebody shivers and remarks “I just can’t take this wind”
The hero stands and says, “We better burn the beds before we freeze!”
Won’t somebody just get up and shut the window, please?
They’re
eyeballing your chair, they wanna burn the one you’re in
A cross-eyed man looks at you and asks “Are you two twins?”
The middle child sittin’ sitting sullen in the corner starts to
cough and wheeze
Won’t somebody just get up and shut the window please?
Suddenly
the cowboy who always speaks but never knows
Says, “Sweet, Jesus! It must be at least 32 below!
We might as well open up the door, too.” And half the room agrees
Won’t somebody just get up and shut the window please?
The
fool is quoting shakespear but no one seems to mind
He says, “ ‘tis the times plague when madmen lead the blind!”
“There’s no such thing as miracles!” says the blind
man who now sees
Won’t somebody just get up and shut the window please?
You
get up from your seat, throw your chair on the fire
You say, “I will no longer sit here in this political quagmire!”
The wise man says, “It’s all been downhill since we left the
trees”
Won’t somebody just get up and shut the window please?
